In the recently passed days we suffered the loss of Mrs. King. In looking back at her life, and the life of her husband, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; I think of the ways in which their lives have touched all of us. It has been an honor to have lived and to have witnessed their part in history. No matter where you stood in relation to the issue of race, life for everyone took on a change. It is no longer status quo. The minds of a whole generation of people, both black and white alike, was forever changed. If not changed, at least motivated to rethink its position. What part in morality does racism play? Through the injustice, the violence, the protests, and yes the killings; our eyes were opened.
It seems sad to me, that we as a society must fall to such depths before we can ascend to a level near humanity. The picture we view is not a new one. After all, Christ Himself suffered ridicule and injustice, even to the point of His own death. Our hindsight is always better than our foresight. Must we forever look backward before the good that is done, can be seen? How long will it be before we carry the message into the future; instead of struggling to bringing it from the past.
Mrs. King and her husband stood for the goodness that can be achieved. The good that must be achieved by mankind as a family. We need to stop beating down those among us, that urge us to do the greater good. Each of our lives is an example to others of how we should or should not live. Christ was the perfect example. Which example will you be?
Blessings,
Matt.
